I’ve had the NexTool Mini Flagship F12 for a while now, and I think it is the best keychain multi-tool currently in production — but now NexTool went and dropped not one, not two, but three brand-new color options, and that just made this diminutive multi-tool even better.
Why the NexTool Mini Flagship F12 Is Still the Best Keychain Multi-Tool
The F12 isn’t a new release — it’s been out for several months and I’d already done a full unboxing and overview. But it earned its spot as my favorite keychain multi-tool because it included exactly the tools you actually need, without any of the unnecessary filler. Here’s what made it stand out:
- Long-nose pliers with bolt grippers and a wire cutter
- Scissors — honestly one of the best features on this tool, and the main reason it edged out the competition for me
- Sheep’s foot blade in 8Cr14MoV steel, a relatively solid choice for a keychain tool
- File with both cross-cut and single-cut sides
- Large flat-head screwdriver — locking, same as the knife blade
- Phillips screwdriver (2.5D), with a satisfyingly long reach
- Depth gauge that measured in both centimeters and inches
- Bottle opener with a flat-head tip — smaller than the main flat-head, but absolutely useful at the end of a long day
A couple of things I did miss: the diamond-coated file from the S11 Pro would’ve been a nice touch, and there’s no can opener — though in a pinch, a knife blade gets the job done well enough that it wasn’t a dealbreaker.
The New Color Options
NexTool released three new colors alongside the original stainless finish, giving you four total options to choose from. All three new variants featured a black stonewashed finish on the internal tools, which gave everything a clean, cohesive look regardless of handle color.
Khaki
The khaki finish had a very military, tactical feel to it — a great color combination that looked purposeful and rugged. The scissors on this one closed very cleanly, which was actually an improvement over the first version I owned where they didn’t seat quite right. NexTool appeared to have addressed that issue in these newer production runs.
Blue
The blue variant carried the same stonewashed finish on the internal components. The scissors closed properly, though not quite as snugly as on the khaki. Still, nothing that would cause a problem in real-world use. The overall build quality reflected NexTool’s consistently solid standards.
Stonewashed (Black)
This one took the top spot for me. Unlike a traditional black oxide finish, NexTool described this as a stonewash — the stainless steel ran through a washing process that left a dark, slightly lighter-than-black coating with a worn, patina-like appearance. Every component on this version shared the same dark stonewashed finish, giving it a unified, stealthy look that the other colors couldn’t quite match.
One detail I always brightens up things: a glowing nub on the handle of the scissors. After a quick charge under a light, it glowed noticeably in the dark — a genuinely practical feature for locating the tool at night.
The Leather Accessory Pouch
NexTool also released a leather accessory pouch designed specifically for the F12 — and as a bonus, it fit the NexTool S11 Pro as well. The pouch featured snap closures on the front and a belt loop on the back with its own snap, so it could be attached and removed without taking the belt off entirely. It was a clean, practical carry option for anyone who didn’t want to clip the F12 to a keychain.
What made this even better: the accessory pouch was available for free through the official NexTool website. Adding the F12 and the pouch to the cart, then entering the coupon code F12 at checkout, dropped the pouch to zero cost. The offer was limited-time and exclusive to the NexTool website — it wasn’t available through Amazon or AliExpress — so grabbing it sooner rather than later was the move.
Final Thoughts
The NexTool Mini Flagship F12 was already sitting at the top of my keychain multi-tool rankings, and these new color options only gave more reasons to pick one up — or pick up another one in a different finish. The dark stonewash version became my personal carry, but the khaki and blue were both genuinely appealing in their own right.
If you’ve been on the fence about the F12, now’s a great time to pull the trigger, especially with the free leather pouch offer running. And if you already own one, the new colors might just be the excuse you needed for a second.
Which color would you carry? Drop your pick in the comments — I’d love to know which finish speaks to you.
