A Game of Thrones

I haven’t read fiction much these days but back in grade school, when I was 8 or so, I started on my first novel: The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. I found it lying about with my mom’s stuff and curious as I was, read it. I remember having a struggle reading this new book that had no pictures.

I persevered and eventually went through the book and soon after The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I also went through the Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys (one book every afternoon after class). During high school, I kept reading: going through Tolkien’s books again, suspense/thrillers notably The Bourne series and even crap like Mills and Boons(!). During college, there was a whole bunch: Robotech, the Robot Series, the Foundation Series, the Clancy books, a bunch of Crichton books, the Dragonlance Chronicles, and more.

SciFi = SyFy

Was walking around NYC with Cez and Euge when we saw this poster advertising the new Stargate Universe TV series. It seems interesting since I liked Stargate the movie, followed Stargate: Atlantis, and plan to watch the original Stargate TV series. But what caught my eye is the URL in the poster: syfy.com instead of scifi.com. What is wrong with these people?!? As Cez said, it’s the dumbing down of the USA. Sheesh!

Heroes Rebooted

I just watching the latest episode of Heroes when it came to me why it is different. My sister had mentioned that the new “rebooted” season is somehow different from the previous season. That was the season when there was so much lovey-dovey going on and everything was shiny and happy (Sylar was goody-goody, wth!!!).

After the reboot, I realized that the series has made a twist to the dark: people are dying, things are turned upsaide down, everything seems bleak and hopeless, and Sylar is oozing pure evil. Much better, definitely much better.

Knight Rider

Just watched the pilot of Knight Rider. KITT is back but instead of Knight Industries Two Thousand it is now Knight Industries Three Thousand. I wonder if they will call the next model KIFT or Knight Industries Four Thousand. There are of course less subtle changes. Instead of a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, the new KITT is now the iconic Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Now that is a car. They should have called it HOTT! And instead of Michael Knight who’s off hiding (Malibu probably) it’s now Mike Knight. All very original as you can see. But I suppose the new target audience doesn’t remember the original Michael Knight and KITT, anyway. So what’s in store for these new fanboys (and girls?) ? What else but the usual cars, gadgets, guns (if you don’t have a car like KITT you should have guns, lots of guns), and hot girls. What more do you need, right? After all, boys will always be boys.

Rei Ayanami Is Here!

Joy gave me joyous news today: Rei Ayanami has arrived from the land of the rising sun! After a long long wait she’s finally here! I lost no time and met up with Joy and Lem for lunch and, of course, to pick Rei up. But I didn’t open the box right away. I wanted to document the unboxing. And this morning I finally did.

So what can I say? She’s gorgeous… drop-dead gorgeous. She’s primarily vinyl with some ABS parts. Definitely, designed for mass-production. Molding and paint job is top-notch though. There is no mistaking her for anyone else.
As expected, she’s eminently poseable being equipped with Kaiyodo‘s Revoltech joints. To aid in more life-like poses, she has four spare hands. There’s also a stand for those unstable poses.

Sadly, she only has The Spear of Longinus as an accessory. But then again, if you’re Rei, do you need anything else? Go see the anime if you don’t know what I mean.

All in all she’s great. There are many like her (including Joy’s). But this one is mine and she’s the best :P

Thanks again Joy-joy!
