Pacquiao vs Rios

Today, Manny Pacquiao fights Brandon Rios. It will be a national event as usual. But for the first time, I’m hoping that Pacquiao will win. I have a few reasons:

  1. After a triple whammy of terrorism (yes, terrorism) in Zamboanga, earthquake in Bohol, and supertyphoon Haiyan/Yolanda, the country needs inspiration. Of course, the huge outpouring of aid from both inside and outside the country is already one of the most inspiring things I’ve seen (many thanks!).
  2. Some people in the Rios camp are a$$holes and jerks.
  3. Pacquiao needs a win. He hasn’t won his last few fights. But even if he had, if only to end his boxing career at a high note. I think he should hang up those gloves after this and forget about Marquez and Mayweather. But I doubt he will just yet.

UPDATE: Pacquiao won! Hooray!

Quitting While You’re Ahead

Today, Manny Pacquiao will be fighting Antonio Margarito. Some people think that Pacquiao should just quit while he’s ahead. Now there’s something wrong with that. One, quit is not in the dictionary of a winner. Two, there is always someone, some place, some achievement ahead of you. So why quit when you can blaze trails and earn more, learn more, BE more? To paraphrase Thomas Edison: If you don’t fail, you’re not trying hard enough. Good luck Manny! Win or lose, you will always be a champion. But preferably win, of course.

UPDATE: Win he did!

Pacquio vs Hatton

Michelle and I we’re on the way to Tagaytay for a photo shoot when we heard over the radio that Pacquiao won. On the second round, no less. Soon as I got home, I downloaded the fight. It helped that the coverage was only for two round so in just a short while I was already watching the fight. What can I say? Pacquiao was awesome! He literally demolished Hatton. He just keeps getting better and better.

Pacquiao vs Marquez

Today, Manny Pacquiao fights Juan Manuel Marquez. It will be a national event… again. The whole country will come almost to a standstill as everyone watches the bout. No playing badminton. Less traffic. Less crime.

Before, I thought people were kidding when it was said that it will be a zero-crime day. But apparently the police expect the crime rate to actually dip during the fight. This phenomenon has actually been recorded during Pacquiao’s previous fights. They believe it is because even the criminally-inclined will also be watching.

Even more, the military is declaring a truce with insurgents for the duration of the bout. Some lawmakers have flown to Vegas to watch (I hope not with taxpayers’ money). Maybe even GMA and notorious hubby Mike will take the time off from scheming and watch. Indeed, it is a national event.

UPDATE: Pacquiao won. Yay! And we still got to play badminton.

Pacquiao vs Barrera

They say today will be a traffic congestion-free and a zero-crime rate day in the Philippines. Everyone will be at home watching Manny Pacquiao’s match against Antonio Barrera. It’s of course a joke but it’s not too far-fetched and it’s nice to see something grabbing the common interest of so many Filipinos. Go Pacman!

UPDATE: Pacman won! Yay!
