Steering Pump Problem

The car’s power steering pump has been making groaning sounds for a few months already. Also the steering wheel would occasionally become harder to turn. Both were signs that the power steering pump was about to give up. And last Tuesday, night, as Michelle was parking the car, it started making a clatter. Steering was still functioning but the noise was unnerving so I decided to drive the car to Fusion R the next day.

Once I got there, we popped the hood, and the mechanic confirmed that the power steering pump was making the noise and must be replaced. Since the car was in for repairs anyway, I requested for a host of other things : change oil, change oil filter, change spark plug oil seals, change valve cover seal, change crankshaft oil seal, throttle body cleaning, idle motor cleaning, and tightening of belts.

It took till the next day because they had to remove the power steering pump and use it as a sample for matching with an appropriate replacement. It was a hit-and-miss affair: the first candidate had a faulty pulley and the second candidate wasn’t an exact fit.  But, as they say, third time’s a charm, and they finally got it right.

When I got the car back, there was no more noise, steering was working perfectly, and there were no rpm dropping problems. Fusion R has worked their magic again!

Shell Citibank Fuel Promo

Shell is giving away P100 worth of fuel for every P1500 or more worth of fuel paid with Citibank credit card. That’s essentially a 6.67% rebate. Better than Citibank Shell credit card’s regular rebate of 5%. Until your fuel up goes over P2000, of course. It’s just a little over 2 liters at today’s prices. But hey, every drop counts!

2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

On my way from Servitek, I dropped by a Hyundai dealership along the way. I checked out the Genesis Coupe on display and I noticed that it seemed different from the one I saw last Saturday. This got me curious  and, after a few minutes of searching, I learned Hyundai has come out with the 2011 model year Genesis Coupe.

Flat Tire

As we were about to leave for the office, I noticed that my rear left tire was deflated. I looked and saw a screw embedded deep in the tread. You DON’T remove embedded objects from your deflated tire so I just tried inflating the tire with my handy lighter air pump and thankfully the tire seemed to hold air reasonably well enough to let me drive to the office.

But I wasn’t about to let it stay that way for long so I left work early and went to the nearest Goodyear Servitek branch where the service guy cold patched the tire. He even replaced the missing tire inflator valve of one of my tires. As always, great service from Goodyear Servitek.

Back To Makati

Back to Makati after a few months at Alabang.  Makati is nearer but it takes about the same time or even longer to get from home to work. Going to Makati is a traffic-congested snail-paced affair. Going to Alabang is a leisurely drive with a enough traffic just to make it interesting. Plus it’s at highway speeds so the fuel consumption ends up around the same. There is no toll fee to Makati but you pay the same amount for parking. I’m actually missing Alabang. Damn!
