NexTool Micro Sailor S0

The NexTool Micro Sailor S0 is the latest in the Sailor series of multi-tools from NexTool. This one is a pair of folding scissors featuring NexTools excellent NEX-SCISSORS 2.0 system. It’s one of the best scissors I’ve seen in a multi-tool. So if you like or use scissors on a daily basis, you shouldn’t miss this.

Ultra-Thin and Lightweight Design

The first thing you notice about the Micro Sailor is just how slim it is. According to the box specifications, it’s only 9mm thick. But it’s actually just 6mm at its thinnest and even at the fasteners, it’s less than 9mm. And weighing a mere 35 grams, it practically disappears in your pocket.

The build quality remains consistent with NexTool’s recent output, featuring a design language that, interestingly, draws inspiration from the Flagship Captain instead of the Sailor series.

The tool comes in a stainless steel finish (though other colors are now available) and includes a small polyurethane carrying case lined with felt. It also features a dedicated lanyard attachment with a key ring, making it a perfect candidate for a keychain setup.

Scissors

The main feature of this multi-tool are the oversized, spring-loaded scissors. It is the NEX-Scissors System 2.0. What makes these scissors effective is the hybrid blade design: one side features a serrated edge to grab material, while the other is a sharp plain edge for the actual slicing. In testing, the S0 handled cardboard, packaging straps, string, and zip ties without breaking a sweat.

However, there is a minor ergonomic trade-off. Because the tool is so thin, the folded sheet metal handles can dig into your palm slightly when you’re applying a lot of pressure on tougher materials.

Other Tools

Despite its tiny footprint, NexTool managed to pack a total of eight functions into the S0 using 420J1 steel for the auxiliary components:

  • Tweezers: These are a bit unusual as they stop at a 90-degree angle. The spring tension is sufficiently strong, making them very effective for fine tasks like removing hair and splinters.
  • Phillips Screwdriver: A 2.5D head that is thin but functional for most household tasks.
  • Nail File: Located on the back of the Phillips head, it’s aggressive enough for quick grooming.
  • Bottle Opener & Large Flathead: A standard combo tool for light-duty tasks.
  • Eyeglass Screwdriver: A very fine flathead specifically designed for the tiny screws found in eyewear.

Final Thoughts: A Specialized EDC Companion

The NexTool Micro Sailor S0 is a minimalist’s dream. By removing the knife blade, NexTool has created a tool that is potentially more “travel-friendly” (though you should always check local airport security regulations as the scissors are still pointy).

While I personally lean toward carrying a tool with pliers and a knife, the S0 is a fantastic secondary option—especially if your daily tasks involve more cutting with scissors than turning bolts. It’s another solid entry from a brand that clearly understands how to iterate and improve on a winning formula.
